The economy added 130,000 new jobs in January, according to a federal jobs report released Wednesday.
While the national unemployment rate remained near four-year highs at 4.3 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ reported job growth exceeded the expectations of economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal, who predicted 55,000 new jobs.
The economy added 80,000 more jobs than it did in January and marked the first time since early 2025 that the economy added more than 100,000 jobs, according to the bureau.
