New York Jets fans have voiced their fury on social media after Aaron Glenn revealed he has ‘no doubt’ that Geno Smith will be the team’s quarterback this season.

The Jets have been under immense pressure to fix their offense after a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw the team struggle with inconsistency under center.

In response, they brought Smith back to the swamps of New Jersey nearly 13 years after being taken by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Smith played four seasons with the Jets, going 28-24, before leaving and becoming a backup with the New York Giants in 2017.

Despite his ties to the franchise, some fans remain concerned about his ability as a starter after coming off a difficult 2-13 stint with the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

Those statistics don’t seem to have concerned Glenn, however, who confirmed that he plans for Smith to be the Jets’ starting signal caller for 2026.

Speaking on the NFL Network on Sunday morning, the 53-year-old was asked about what it means to have Smith on the Jets roster.

He said: ‘It means to have a bona fide starter come in and lead this offense to where it needs to go. Those years in Seattle, when he was Comeback Player of the Year, he was also up for MVP early in the season.

‘There is no doubt in my mind that we brought a competent starter to this team and I look forward to him getting in the building.’

It didn’t take long for Glenn’s comments to go viral on social media and it’s fair to say that Jets fans did not agree with the head coach’s sentiments.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: ‘Aaron Glenn clearly hasn’t done the amount of homework that rules out Geno Smith as a starter in the NFL. Geno’s numbers as a starter do not reflect the reality everyone else is living in but Glenn himself.’

‘A bona fide starter that just led a team to the No. 1 pick?’ another furious fan wrote.

‘A year ago he was that adamant about Fields being the “no doubt about it” starter. Remember they were going to let him play QB and coach him up which no one had ever done. Guy is a clown!’ another said on the social media platform.

After leaving the Jets in 2017, he’d go on to play in a backup role for the Los Angeles Chargers and Seattle Seahawks before reigniting his career when Russell Wilson was traded from Seattle to Denver in 2022.

Smith would go on to have his best season, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns.

However, the statistics reveal that, currently, Smith is on a two-year decline. He threw a league-high 17 interceptions in 2025.

The Jets are paying $3.3 million of his salary, with the Raiders paying $16.2 million.

Some cynical Jets fans see the addition of Smith as an opportunity for the team to tank in 2026 in an effort to get the first pick of the 2027 Draft, when Texas quarterback and NFL legacy Arch Manning is expected to be available.
