Jamie Vardy has emerged as a surprise target for Napoli.

The free agent former England international has been taking his time considering offers with a number of top clubs showing interest.

Italian champions Napoli have now added the 38-year old to their list of options after Romelu Lukaku was ruled out for three months with injury. Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is another target but could prove too expensive.

Vardy left Leicester City at the end of the season after a glittering spell that saw him score 200 goals in 500 appearances and win the Premier League and FA Cup.

His fitness, professionalism and mentality mean he is still an attractive proposition to top tier sides despite his advancing years.

Celtic, Rangers and Everton are among the other sides to have shown levels of interest in recent weeks.

Napoli have previously asked about Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and that was prior to Lukaku’s injury.

The 32-year old Belgium international may need surgery after tearing a thigh muscle in his left leg against Olympiacos during a friendly last week.
