Jamie Vardy has apologised to Leicester City fans for the ‘shit show’ of their relegation from the Premier League.
The Foxes striker branded their miserable season a ‘total embarrassment’ after their return to the Championship was confirmed with defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. It was the ninth home game in a row in which Leicester have failed to score as the former champions suffered their second relegation in three seasons with a whimper.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been unable to steer them to safety in what has been a dire campaign, and boos rang round the King Power Stadium on Sunday as Leicester’s hopes of survival ended with five games still left in the season.
Vardy is captain of the club nd also their longest-serving player, having been around from their early days in the Premier League and helping them to their historical title win back in 2016.
At 38, though, he has been unable to help the Foxes this season, scoring seven of just the 27 his side have managed.
And now, he has taken to social media to apologise to Leicester fans for the season they have had, not mincing his words as he expressed his emotions surrounding the campaign.
Jamie Vardy has issued an X-rated apology to Leicester fans following their relegation

The Foxes’ place in the Championship was confirmed after just one year back in the top flight

Ruud van Nistelrooy was unable to help the side, and his future as boss remains unclear
‘At this point, I don’t even know what to say,’ he began, sharing the message to his 880,000 X followers. ‘No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.
‘Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
‘Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.
‘To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s*** show.’
This disastrous campaign could be Vardy’s last for the club as he nears the end of his contract, having signed a 12-month extension last summer, and remains in talks over his future.
There have been no signs over what is next for Leicester, whose board have come under criticism from fans for their management of the campaign.
Asked about his future, van Nistelrooy, who is contracted until 2027, said: ‘I’m focused on taking my responsibility to do the best things for the future and next season. Performances like Brighton and the Liverpool game are signs that the players are willing to do that.
‘We have to take responsibility and that’s what I’m doing for the next five weeks and after that we have to see.’
The Dutchman revealed that no date has been put in for a conversation with the club hierarchy but that he expects talks to be held soon. He won just eight points in 21 games, compared to former boss Steve Cooper Cooper, who won 10 points in 12.
