Jamie Vardy has reportedly been earmarked as a summer transfer target for one of Spain’s most successful clubs.

After more than a decade in the East Midlands, Vardy will depart Leicester on a free transfer this summer following the club’s relegation back to the Championship.

The 38-year-old netted nine Premier League goals for a struggling Foxes side this season and netted his 200th in all competitions for the club during their 2-0 win over Ipswich last weekend.

His wife, Rebekah Vardy, joined him on the field at the King Power alongside his family as he carried out a lap of honour to say goodbye to the fans after their final home game of the season.

Despite the emotional swan song, Vardy is said to be intent on continuing his career, and has previously suggested he would favour a move to remain in the Premier League.

However, according to a report from The Sun, the former England international could instead be bound for a move to the Mediterranean coast of Spain to join six-time LaLiga winners Valencia.

Valencia have reportedly earmarked Jamie Vardy as a top target following his Leicester exit

The report suggests Valencia boss Carlos Corberan is a keen admirer of Vardy, and hopes to convince him of a summer move to the Mestalla.

After departing West Brom in December, Corberan took the reins at his boyhood club as they teetered previously in the relegation zone.

The club’s form quickly improved following the appointment and Valencia currently sit 12th in the Spanish top flight, having suffered just a single league defeat in their last 13 league games.

Vardy’s status as a free agent would represent a shrewd piece of business for Corberan as he looks to add experience to his forward line on a limited budget.

The 42-year-old is unlikely to be the only suitor in the hunt to secure Vardy’s signature this summer, however.

Several Saudi Pro League clubs have been linked with a move for the veteran striker, while Championship new boys Wrexham are also said to be interested.
