Jamie Vardy gave fans another moment to remember as he suited up for one of his final games for Leicester on Saturday.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side hosted Southampton at the King Power, with both clubs consigned to playing in the Championship next season after their relegations were each confirmed with multiple matches left.

Four minutes after the veteran striker had just opened the scoring for the Foxes, referee David Webb went down in the middle of the pitch following an accidental collision with Leicester’s Jordan Ayew.

Webb, who was making his Premier League debut as a referee, was visibly in some pain and had to receive treatment on the ground. But it was not one of the other three officials who alerted the physios to the situation.

Instead, Vardy hilariously took the onus to grab the referee’s whistle out of his hand while he laid on the floor and blow it to call for help.

The incident – which occurred in the 22nd minute – caused an 11-minute delay to proceedings, which resulted in a total of 12 minutes of added time in the first half.

By the time the referee blew for half-time, the clock read 57 minutes. After Vardy’s opener, Ayew – the unintentional culprit behind the incident – made it 2-0 to Leicester.

Vardy’s and Ayew’s goals marked just the fourth Premier League game since Boxing Day in which Leicester have scored in.
