  • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! With the Premier League likely securing five Champions League spots, are we rewarding mediocrity?

Jamie Carragher has updated fans after he was forced to leave CBS’s studio early on Wednesday night, as he fell ill midway through their Champions League coverage.

The Liverpool legend was not visibly out of sorts throughout the show, and was in animated spirits when his former club were bounced out of Europe against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Carragher was in attendance at Anfield to watch Arne Slot’s side lose on penalties to the French giants. The former defender watched the game in the Kop with his friends, before speaking on CBS’s coverage after the game.

And on Wednesday night, he returned to his role on the CBS panel as expected, where he issued his opinions before Wednesday night’s last-16 second leg fixtures.

Nevertheless, the unspecified illness was enough for Carragher to cut his duties on the night short.

Carragher was absent CBS’s panel from the half-time show onwards, leaving Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Kate Scott to cover the remaining proceedings.

When the half-time show began, Richards and Henry questioned where their fellow panel member had gone, only for Scott to explain to them and the audience that Carragher had fallen ill.

This led to concern from fans over what had happened to the former England defender.

However, he assured fans that he was OK when he shared an update on his Instagram story late on Wednesday night.

‘Feeling better now and just checking if the team can cope without me,’ he posted, accompanied by a photo of Abdo, Richards and Henry in action without him.

Meanwhile, at the start of the show’s coverage on Wednesday, Scott poked fun at Carragher as she introduced him to the panel.

She said: ‘Hello, welcome to our London studios. I am Kate Scott and I am once again joined by Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.

‘Tonight, just like the story of the prodigal son. A bit too big for his boots, he thought life would be sweeter on the road. He thought he would be away, enjoying drinking and revelling, but he took a major loss and realised his foolishness.’

‘He came home, humbled. Hoping that he would be accepted. Jamie Carragher, back in the chair.’

On Wednesday night’s Champions League card was Arsenal’s game against PSV, Aston Villa facing Club Brugge, and an all-Madrid derby between Real and Atletico.
