Jamie Carragher criticised Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo after Liverpool pulled off ‘one of the greatest robberies’ in their late victory at Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot’s side looked to have dropped two vital points in their pursuit of a Champions League place before Alexis Mac Allister fired home in the 97th minute to earn a dramatic 1-0 win.

Carragher was critical of the performance at the City Ground and said young star Rio Ngumoha had more of an impact on the match than Salah or Gakpo – despite only coming on as a 77th-minute substitute.

‘That’s one of the biggest robberies I’ve seen in the Premier League this season, it really is,’ the ex-Liverpool defender said on Sky Sports.

‘Rio Ngumoha came on in the 77th minute, he did more in 15 minutes than Gakpo and Salah did in the whole game. He changed the game this kid. He needs to be starting games now. He’s that good.’

Carragher said Liverpool’s display in the first half was ‘one of the worst of the lot’.

The pundit also took aim at Curtis Jones. ‘He is always taking too many touches, he needs to be sharper,’ Carragher said.

‘That’s been an issue for his entire Liverpool career. He’s always wanting too much time on the ball.’

Liverpool are sixth after the win at Forest, level on points with Manchester United and Chelsea in the race for the Champions League.

Vitor Pereira’s side are just two clear of the relegation zone after they were undone by Mac Allister’s strike at the death.

Mac Allister thought he had scored in the 90th minute when Ola Aina’s clearance rebounded off the Argentine midfielder into the net, but it was ruled out after VAR adjudged the ball to have hit his arm.
