Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala will miss the start of the 2025-26 season after breaking his ankle in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Germany international left the field on a stretcher just before half-time in Atlanta after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, prompting distressing scenes as team-mates and opponents rushed to his aid.
Donnarumma was left in tears with his head in his hands after realising the severity of the incident, while Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer accused the Italian of ‘taking a risk’ with the way he went into the challenge.
The PSG keeper later posted on Instagram to wish Musiala well, writing: ‘All my prayers and well wishes are with you @jamalmusiala10.’
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany described the moment as ’emotional’ after the match and admitted: ‘Of course it didn’t look good. I hope it’s not too bad, but it didn’t look good. I hope he’ll have the best possible recovery.’
According to The Athletic, Musiala will be sidelined for at least four months with a fractured fibula and is expected to undergo surgery upon returning to Munich, leaving him out until November at the earliest.

The 22-year-old had only just returned from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the final two months of Bayern’s 2024-25 season, including their Champions League quarter-final defeat by Inter Milan.
He marked his comeback with a hat-trick off the bench in Bayern’s Club World Cup opener against Auckland City FC, but his latest setback is now set to keep him out for a significant period.
Musiala’s injury capped a disappointing night for Bayern as goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele sealed PSG’s victory despite the French side being reduced to nine men late on.
