Inside New York Yankees’ wild locker room party after securing playoff spot with epic White Sox win

After the New York Yankees completed a ninth-inning comeback to secure their place in the postseason, their clubhouse turned into a wild rave with every member of the roster letting loose.

Several dozen bottles of Budweiser beer and Belaire champagne were opened, with its contents tossed around the Yankees locker room, drenching Aaron Judge, Jason Dominguez, and every other Bronx Bomber.

Shirts and hats that were just stitched to say ‘October baseball’ were covered in alcohol with the momentous occasion of the postseason coming back to New York City’s northernmost borough.

The Yankees needed a 3-2 victory over one of the worst teams in baseball, the Chicago White Sox, to take their magic number from 1 to nonexistent to get into the postseason.

Plastic coverings lined the lockers inside the clubhouse to attempt to keep the players personal belongings worn to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night dry.

Everything inside that draping was soaked, in a euphoric celebration that plenty of New Yorkers thought may not happen in 2025, after a pennant last year.

The Yankees last participated in the showering of alcohol after beating the Cleveland Guardians in the 2024 ALCS, entering a World Series with plenty of promise.

Then, one misstep after another led to the Los Angeles Dodgers having a victory parade after only five championship games.

This season, the Yankees will not enter the postseason as that dominant team. That does not make the bubbly being splattered any less satisfying.

New York qualified for the American League playoffs by claiming at least a Wild Card spot, still one game behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the division crown.

The Yankees looked to be World Series favorites a few months ago, with a huge lead in the AL East that evaporated, much like all the liquid spilled in their locker room by morning.

Yet, even with a roller-coaster summer and limping into the playoffs by fall, the harsh postseason cut from MLB is still a test the Yankees passed, sitting 21 games over .500 on Wednesday.

Virtue of the late-season collapses in the Wild Card race from the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, and Houston Astros, the Yankees had a huge window of opportunity to get into the postseason and did not blow it themselves.

Many players wore goggles inside the locker room to avoid injuries to their eyes from the champagne, as the team still has much to play for in its final five regular season games.

The Yankees will step into that now-dry locker room before every game left in the regular season, starting with two more games against the White Sox on Wednesday and Thursday.

To end the 162-game slate, the Baltimore Orioles come to town to end their disappointing season, with five wins left on the table for the Yankees.

The Blue Jays will not leave Canada into the playoffs, finishing their series against the Boston Red Sox this week, before a regular-season ender against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Even if the journey did not go as expected, Yankees fans can take one sigh of relief knowing World Series crown No 28 is still possible this season.
