IndyCar star David Malukas airlifted to hospital after horror crash live on TV in Nashville

IndyCar driver David Malukas has been airlifted to hospital for a precautionary evaluation after suffering a brutal crash in Sunday’s Music City Grand Prix finale.

The American star, who qualified second for the race in Nashville, was still in second place when he tried to overtake British rookie driver Louis Foster on lap 88.

As he went to pass Foster, the two cars collided and sent Malukas’ vehicle spinning backward straight into the wall.

After letting his frustrations out on the team radio, he was taken to a local trauma center via helicopter as part of precautionary measures.

However, it is believed Malukas is alert and in good spirits despite crashing out of the race in scary fashion on Sunday.

‘David’s doing well. He’s awake, he’s alert, he’s in really good spirits. We’re just sending him down to our trauma center for some precautionary evaluation and advanced imaging,’ IndyCar medical advisor Dr. Julia Vaizer said on Fox Sports’ live broadcast.

Foster was handed a drive-through penalty after his collision with Malukas in Nashville.

The latter was runner-up in this year’s Indianapolis 500, one of three second-place finishes in his career.

Last week at the Milwaukee Mile, he was in with a chance of victory until an air gun failure during a late-race pit stop dropped him a lap down.

The 23-year-old fought back to come eighth and seal his fifth top-10 finish of the season.

Heading into Sunday’s finale in Nashville, Malukas sat 11th in the overall IndyCar standings.
