Independent survey launches to capture resident priorities

Telephone, face-to-face and online surveys, deadline for comments: 13 August 2025.

An independent survey has been launched to capture residents’ satisfaction with their local area as a place to live. The survey, which is being carried out by Enventure Research on behalf of Cheltenham Borough Council, will ask residents for their views on their area, the council and its services, environmental issues and developments in Cheltenham.

The survey focuses specifically on Cheltenham as a place to live and Cheltenham Borough Council services – it is separate to the county-wide survey which is currently live, linking to Local Government Reorganisation.

In addition to the online survey, face-to-face surveys with residents are being carried out in Cheltenham town centre throughout the next few weeks and some residents will be contacted by telephone.

Councillor Rowena Hay, leader of the council said: “As an ambitious and forward-thinking council, we are already taking forward exciting plans, including Golden Valley at West Cheltenham. What remains important is that residents are a part of this journey, as we shape future service delivery to support our priorities. Understanding our residents’ views is invaluable to this forward planning.

“Resident surveys are frequently carried out by councils to collect a representative view from local people. The results from our last survey told us that many people are satisfied with living here and their council services overall, and we will continue to use residents’ insights to inform current and future decision making.’’

The last residents’ survey, carried out in 2022, revealed that 90% of Cheltenham residents were satisfied with their local area as a place to live.  88% of residents were satisfied with Cheltenham’s award winning parks and open spaces, with 72% of residents satisfied with the cleanliness of the streets in their local area.

The results and insights from this latest survey will be published in the autumn.

Notes:

It is recommended by the Local Government Association (LGA) that as best practice, councils undertake resident satisfaction surveys to get insights from a representative sample of the local population.
