Scotland’s Bob MacIntyre says his game is exactly where he wants it to be as he bids to win his first major title at the Masters this week.

The 29-year-old Oban golfer has the famous green jacket in his sights after narrowly missing out on a third PGA Tour title at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio on Sunday night.

Having led the tournament by four shots at the halfway stage, MacIntyre was disappointed to finish in a tie for second, one stroke behind winner JJ Spaun, but he is pleased with his recent form.

The world No 8, who finished fourth at the Players Championship last month, says more of the same will serve him well at Augusta National where he would love to make his major breakthrough.

‘I gave it my best shot,’ said MacIntyre after a closing 70 in which he carded an eagle on the par-4 17th and came agonisingly close to forcing a playoff in the weather-delayed event.

Bob MacIntyre hopes to carry his recent form into the Masters at Augusta National this week

‘I trusted everything that I’ve got, especially coming down that stretch. I was proud of the way I played.

‘Disappointed with some of the bogeys. Good execution, a couple of shots. I’m right there, I don’t need to worry about things.

‘I just need to rinse and repeat again going into next week.’

Last year, MacIntyre took the week off before the Masters, only to miss the cut. This year, he hopes that playing in Texas has given him momentum.

‘I wanted to be sharp, or sharper going into Augusta,’ he said. ‘I prefer playing my way in.’
