Edie Falco’s most famous role nearly turned from small-screen infamy into her reality based on her feelings as a New York sports fan and hatred for Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid.
Falco, as a guest on the ‘Roommates Show’, which is hosted by Knicks duo Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, she admitted wanting to ‘go after’ Embiid during the New York-Philadelphia playoff series earlier this year.
Her rage for one of the NBA’s best comes from Embiid elbowing Brunson during Game 4 of that Eastern Conference series. The Knicks would eventually advance past the 76ers in six games.
The 7-foot 280-pound Embiid being in a fracas with the 61-year-old Falco seems a bit preposterous on paper. New York sports fans are one of a kind.
And maybe someone should never doubt Carmela Soprano after all she dealt with as the wife of a mafia boss.
‘Joel Embiid, he’s mean,’ Falco said to Brunson. ‘He like elbowed you in a game last year and I was going to go after him. I mean that’s how bad it was. And then I think I’ve seen you guys play since then and you guys are all like cool with each other. I’m like, “You don’t hold a grudge?”‘
Edie Falco, who notably played Carmela Soprano, said she wanted to ‘go after’ Joel Embiid
Embiid’s elbow to Jalen Brunson infuriated New Yorkers during the postseason earlier this year
Brunson clarified he did not like the elbow from Embiid but does not hold any ill will for the Team USA star.
Down the line Embiid and Brunson could be teammates on the American men’s basketball team at the 2028 Olympics, or at an All-Star Game.
Playing for the 76ers and Knicks, the duo are also guaranteed to be opponents several times a year before the postseason.
Falco herself won three Emmys for her portrayal of Carmela Soprano and she has had success in other roles since the show.
There is no doubt she’s a huge New York sports fan, with that part of the Soprano’s never truly making it to air.
