Graham Wright was reported missing from Glasgow last month

Human remains found on the shore of Loch Lomond at the weekend are that of a missing man, police have said.

Officers were called to the Rubha Dubh, near Firkin Point, at about 12:40 on Saturday after a member of the public made the discovery.

The remains have been identified as Graham Wright, 38, who was reported missing from Glasgow last month.

His death is being treated as unexplained and police have urged anyone with information to contact them.

Mr Wright was reported missing on Monday 25 August. He was last seen at about 12:00 on Wednesday 20 August on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals area of Glasgow.

Police said he may also have been in the same area on Friday 5 September at about 09:30.

A police officer, wearing a neon yellow/green jacket, stands by police tape sealing off a road amongst woodland. A white police van is visible further up the road.

Officers said the alarm was raised at Loch Lomond at about 12:40 on Saturday

Police said the probe involves specialist resources, police dogs, air support and the dive and marine unit.

Det Supt Peter Sharp said: “Our thoughts are with Graham’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“It is vital we get answers for them and extensive inquiries are ongoing to establish how his remains came to be on the shore of Loch Lomond.

“The area can be busy with visitors and dog walkers, and I would urge anyone who was staying in the area to come forward, as any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could prove vital.”

‘Large police presence’

The detective urged anyone driving in the area, specifically the A82, between 1 and 13 September to contact police.

He said searches of the area will continue alongside door-to-door inquiries.

He added: “We are also appealing for information from anyone who was onboard a boat, or any other vessel, or anyone who may have been using the water near to Firkin Point for any purpose around this time.

“Please be reassured we are doing everything we can to get answers and there will be a large police presence as these inquiries continue.”

Supt Mark Stirling said: “I would like to extend my sympathies to Graham’s family and friends as they try to come to terms with their loss.

“We understand the significant impact this will have on the local community and I would like to thank everyone for their help so far.”
