How Gary Lineker’s long BBC career came to an abrupt end | UK News

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has confirmed he will leave the after presenting his final episode of the programme on Sunday. He shared the update in a video posted to his Instagram account.

Lineker had been expected to continue fronting coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup.

However, a social media post he shared about Zionism that included an illustration of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic insult, attracted renewed criticism of the presenter last week.

The former England men’s football international-turned TV presenter has worked for the for over two decades and described his time as a “pleasure and a huge privilege”.

Lineker also said that presenting Match of the Day had become “an integral part of my life”.
