- David Fifita didn’t want to be away from partner Shaylee Bent
- Footy power couple have been together since 2022
- Main reason why Fifita, 25, backflipped on Roosters contract
NRL star David Fifita has revealed why he backflipped on a whopping $3.4million contract with the Sydney Roosters last year – his partner Shaylee Bent.
Fifita, 25, is settled on the Gold Coast, and wants to win a maiden premiership with the Titans.
The damaging backrower has never looked fitter, clearly embracing Des Hasler’s coaching methods.
But Fifita has revealed his love for NRLW star Bent – who last October signed an extension with the Titans that binds her to the team until 2027 – was the chief reason he will stay on the Glitter Strip.
‘Shaylee has scarified a lot,’ he told News Corp.
‘She cooks and does a lot for me. She looks after me and does all the right things.’

The Titans star, 24, has made four appearances for Australia across her own footy career
Fifita is off-contract at the end of 2026 and knows it won’t be easy for the club to retain fellow stars Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, AJ Brimson and Jayden Campbell long term.
Why is why Fifita firmly believes their premiership window is now.
Rival clubs and fans may dismiss the Titans as a genuine threat this year, but the playing group, led by Fifita, are quietly confident.
And in terms of representative footy, NSW Blues players have been warned – Fifita wants his Queensland jersey back.
‘I have to earn it,’ he said. ‘It’s all up to me….I need to be injury-free and have a good mindset.
‘I didn’t earn it [Maroons jumper] last year, so it starts [in round two] against the Bulldogs.’
Meanwhile, veteran Titans playmaker Kieran Foran will be sidelined until May with a biceps injury sustained in the recent trial win over the Dolphins.
‘It won’t be the end of me. I’ve committed to this year and I’m sticking strong to that,’ Foran said.
‘I’ve gotten pretty good at dealing with these kind of setbacks across my career.
‘I’ll knuckle down with my rehab and then attack the back end of the year.’
