This is the horrifying moment that a vet was kicked by 2025 Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin following the race.

The winner of Cheltenham’s most prestigious race prevented previous two-time winner Galopin Des Champs from winning a third successive Gold Cup.

Winning by six lengths from the horse many had tipped to create history, Inothewayurthinkin remained in the spotlight for an incident that came after the race had ended.

Video footage of the incident, which was posted to X, formerly Twitter, shows a vet rushing to treat the Gold Cup victor by lifting one of its hind legs.

However, it then kicks out at the vet, who was sent flying by Inothewayurthinkin’s surprise move.

Fortunately, in a response to the clip, ITV Racing presenter Alice Plunkett confirmed that the individual was okay.

But others reacted to the video by criticising the vet for not being more cautious around the horse – particularly given that it had just been in the high-octane situation of an important race.

One individual wrote: ‘Not the best thing to do with the jockey still on and the horse’s adrenaline up.’

A second commented: ‘Can’t believe an experienced vet tried to lift a horse’s back leg when it’s literally just finished racing.’

A third fumed: ‘Who is stupid enough to try and put a dressing on a hind leg immediately after the race!?’

It comes after fellow Gold Cup runner Corbetts Cross died aged eight after suffering a heavy fall during the event on Friday afternoon.

The racehorse, ridden by Irish Jockey Jack Kennedy, sustained fatal injuries towards the end of the fifth race of the day.

Corbetts Cross was in the chasing pack heading to the final stages, but fell while leaping over a fence.

It was quickly attended to by veterinary professionals, as it lay wounded on the ground, before being taken away in a horse ambulance.

An official statement from Cheltenham read: ‘In our fifth race of the day, Corbetts Cross was immediately attended to by our veterinary professionals, but sadly sustained a fatal injury. Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections.’

ITV Racing presenter Ed Chamberlin also shared his condolences while breaking the news live on air.

He said: ‘I’m afraid though the news about Corbetts Cross is the news we feared… which is so sad for J. P. McManus, taking the gloss off winning.

‘J.P. is a man who loves his horses so much, our condolences to Jack Kennedy, who rode, the whole team. A sad post-script to the Gold Cup I’m afraid.’
