A family in Minnesota is reeling after the tragic and unexpected death of a teenage boy, who passed away after a medical emergency near his school.
16-year-old Espoir Missite was found on a trail near Maple Grove Senior High School in the Minneapolis suburb of Maple Grove, Minnesota on back on February 25.
He was later transported to the hospital, where he passed away – according to a press release from the Maple Grove Police Department.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Missite’s family to cover funeral expenses – where they have raised over $21,000 so far. The funeral took place this past Tuesday, according to the page.
‘His lively spirit and passion for science, sport and life impacted everyone he encountered, and his absence is profoundly felt by all,’ the page read.
The page says that he passed away after suffering cardiac arrest following track practice.

However, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the school’s principal – Bart Becker – said the incident did not occur during a formal track practice, which does not begin until March 10.
According to police, bystanders were able to ‘provid[e] life-saving aid’ before first responders arrived.
The local fire department says they received a CPR call from behind the high school at around 5:00pm.
‘When we arrived, the ambulance, there were already two on scene, along with police,’ Jeremy Berger, deputy fire marshal of the Maple Grove Fire Department, told People Magazine.
‘The fire department was asked to help provide oxygen, and to load the patient on to the gurney where they transported him.’
Police are still investigating the incident and are waiting for a report from the medical examiner’s office about an official cause of death.
