Iranian military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari delivered a message direct to Donald Trump during a recent Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps operational update, telling the US president “you’re fired”.

“Hey Trump – you’re fired. You’re familiar with this sentence,” said Zolfaghari at the end of an address circulated by Iranian state media on Sunday (22 March), before signing off:

“Thank you for your attention to this matter. The Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya,” – a nod to Trump’s traditional social media valediction.

Iran’s foreign ministry have rubbished Trump’s claim his administration is engaged in “productive” talks to end the war in Iran on Monday, suggesting the president is only trying to reassure inflamed energy markets and buy time for his military plans.
