Harry Kane scored two goals as Bayern Munich beat Flamengo 4-2 on Sunday to book a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

His first was a superb left-footed strike from long range, which put his side 2-0 up in the ninth minute after an Erick Pulgar own goal had given Bayern an early lead.

Kane then bagged again in the second half, this time with his right foot, after Leon Goretzka had also found the net.

Flamengo twice pulled goals back to close to within one of Bayern, first through Gerson and then courtesy of a penalty kick converted by former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Jorginho.

But the German champions rarely looked in danger.

Bayern will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals, after the Champions League winners thrashed Inter Miami 4-0 earlier on Sunday.

Kane’s first goal of the game was a thing of beauty.

The England captain collected the ball on the turn midway inside the Flamengo half. He then rode what appeared to be foul by a Flamengo player before smashing home a low shot via the inside of the post from 23 yards.

His second of the night was a cool two-touch finish to kill the contest.

Kane has now scored 41 goals in his second season with Bayern, having hit 44 in his first campaign with the German giants.

The 31-year-old was denied the chance to complete what would have been the ninth hat-trick of his Bayern career when he was substituted off in added time.

But Kane still left the Hard Rock Stadium with the Superior Player of the Match award.

Bayern now have six days to prepare for their last eight clash with PSG. They have won their last four games against the Parisians.

However, PSG will start Saturday’s quarter-final as favourites after hammering Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

PSG scored four unanswered goals in Atlanta, with Joao Neves bagging a brace. Tomas Aviles scored an own goal, while Achraf Hakimi also found the net.

Kane was asked about the prospect of facing PSG in a post-game interview with DAZN.

‘It’s going to be another tough game,’ he said. ‘PSG have had an amazing season. We played them earlier in the year and we came out on top so we have to use that energy and that feeling.

‘We feel like we can beat anyone when we’re at our level. We are going to have to recover well and get ready for it.’

Kane also praised team-mate Joshua Kimmich for assisting his second goal. He said: ‘It was a nice ball by Josh, it was a nice little disguised pass. My first touch sets up the goal and I thought front post was the better option though thankfully it paid off.’

On Sunday’s match itself, he added: ‘It was tough. We were playing against a really good side in difficult conditions, it was really hot. I thought we played well for large spells but every time we got away they clawed their way back and made it difficult. The fourth goal was important to ease the nerves and from their we managed it well.’
