Police video from Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey’s recent reckless driving citation has surfaced showing the 7-foot-4 NBA star being excoriated by a cop for driving 100mph in a 55-mph zone.
‘You know exactly why I pulled you over,’ the Indiana State policewoman told Edey in May as she approached his SUV, as seen in body-cam footage. ‘You were going 101.’
In the end, Edey admitted to going 91 mph and was ordered to pay a fine of $500 and court costs of $139.50, totaling $639.50.
The biggest penalty, however, was the earful he got from the state trooper.

‘No,’ she said. ‘You don’t pass at 100. The road is 55. You were going almost double the speed limit.

‘You could pass someone at 80,’ she continued. ’80? OK. 100? 100 is not OK ever.’
Edey said he was in the area to visit Purdue, where he was a two-time national college player of the year and a two-time first-team All-American for the Boilermakers.
The 23-year-old finalized his plea deal with authorities in late July and his subsequent bench trial was canceled, according to court online records reviewed by Daily Mail.
Edey had an up-and-down first season in Memphis, averaging 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds a game over 66 appearances and 55 starts.
There remains some concern about his ability to keep up with the modern pace of the NBA — particularly in Memphis, where the Grizzlies averaged a league-high 103.26 possessions per game.
To his credit, the native Canadian isn’t shying away from criticism.
‘I have to work on a lot of things this offseason: My lateral quickness, my explosiveness, my athleticism in guarding the perimeter,’ Edey told reporters at his year-end media availability. ‘There’s a lot to work on.’
The Grizzlies went 44-29 under Taylor Jenkins in 2024-25 before firing him and going the rest of the way with Thomas Lisalo.
Memphis was swept in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs by the eventual NBA-champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
