Grimsby MOCK Man United boss Ruben Amorim with cheeky tactics board stunt… just days after dumping Red Devils out of the Carabao Cup

Grimsby Town have taken aim at Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim just days after pulling off a historic Carabao Cup upset.

The League Two side stunned United in midweek, dumping the Premier League giants out of the competition 12-11 on penalties after a dramatic shootout at Blundell Park.

During the match, Amorim, 40, was bizarrely caught on Sky Sports cameras fiddling with a tactics board in the dugout, shifting a series of small magnets around during the 62nd minute.

His touchline tinkering did spark a late United fightback, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire both scoring to level the game, but it wasn’t enough to prevent one of the most humiliating defeats in the club’s history.

Clips of Amorim quickly went viral, with fans mocking the Portuguese coach for his unusual approach.

And now, four days on, Grimsby have twisted the knife with a cheeky dig of their own ahead of their League Two clash with Bristol Rovers.

The Mariners released their starting XI on social media using  a tactics board and magnets, mirroring Amorim’s viral antics.

In a tongue-in-cheek video posted on X, the club’s media team can be seen shifting magnets around the board before saying: ‘Oh hiya, just going through the Town formation for today’s League Two fixture against Bristol Rovers.

‘Four changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Manchester United and eventually beat in penalties on that famous night at Blundell Park,’ before naming the XI.

Grimsby’s reward for knocking out United is a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, who also beat Premier League opposition in surprising fashion by defeating Leeds United.

The third round fixtures will take place across two weeks, beginning on September 15 and September 22 with Champions League and Europa League fixtures also taking place throughout these weeks.

However, United will not be a part of the next round of the competition in a humbling result that realistically leaves Amorim’s side with just the FA Cup to contend for less than a month into the new campaign.

The men from Old Trafford are also yet to win a competitive match this season with a defeat and a draw from their opening two Premier League matches so far.
