The Green Party has won its first seat on Cheshire East Council following a by-election.
John Knight received 41% of the vote in the Macclesfield Central ward, winning some 200 more votes than the second-placed Labour candidate.
The council is currently led by a coalition between Labour and the Independent group although the Conservatives are the largest party on the council.
Reform finished third, the Conservatives came fourth, the Equality Party were fifth and the Liberal Democrats were sixth.
The by-election was called following the resignation of Ashley Farrall days before he was jailed for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He was elected as a Labour councillor but was suspended by the party and had been sitting as an Independent.
