After a stunning victory in the first event of the Florida swing, Nico Echavarria will be growing his household.

The Colombian golfer pulled off a dramatic victory by two strokes over Irishman Shane Lowry at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.

Shortly after finishing 17-under in the tournament, Echavarria told reporters that he will be fulfilling a promise to his wife, Claudia.

‘The promise is we’re getting a dog because a dog is expensive, so we need a third win for a dog, that’s how it works,’ Echavarria said with a grin at the podium.

Regarding a specific breed, Echavarria said, ‘We want a Bernedoodle. Min Woo [Lee] just got one.’

As he said, this is the third career victory on the PGA Tour for Echavarria.

He previously took victory in the 2023 Puerto Rico Open as well as the 2024 Zozo Championship.

This weekend, he played bogey-free in the final two rounds of the tournament held at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

Down three shots going into the final three holes, Lowry collapsed with a pair of double bogeys on the 16th and 17th.

Echavarria countered with a birdie on the 17th to finish two-under for the back nine and take the win.

‘I didn’t have my best off the tee, but I was able to manage. I had some good breaks,’ said Echavarria, who took home $1.728million with the victory.

‘To win out here, sometimes you have to have good breaks if you’re not Scottie Scheffler that hits it every time in the perfect place. So, I’m happy with how it went.’

The win also earns Echavarria an invite to The Masters this April, marking his second appearance at Augusta National.

Earlier this week, Nico and Claudia bought a home in Florida. Now, the couple who have been married since last November are set to bring a little friend home as well.
