The Warriors have waived Seth Curry just before the start of the NBA season – but the brother of Steph is expected to re-join the team later this year.

Seth, an elite shooter in his own right, signed with the team earlier this month and had traveled with Golden State during its recent road trip.

However, due to their $206.3million payroll, which is just below the second apron (a new salary cap threshold which comes with severe penalties), the Warriors cannot commit to Seth’s veteran minimum contract until early November.

ESPN reported that Seth, the younger brother of Stephen, is expected back with the team in ‘the next couple of months,’ and called the move ‘procedural.’

Seth, 35, had been working out with the Warriors but was not active for their preseason games.

After going undrafted out of Duke in 2013, he has carved out an impressive 11-year career, playing for 10 different teams and establishing himself as one of the most accurate shooters in the history of the game.

While his older brother, 37, is of course known for his shooting ability, Seth has also made 43.3 percent of his threes – the seventh-highest rate in NBA history.

Seth also began his pro career with the Warriors’ G League affiliate, though he has never played for the Warriors themselves.

The pair have never played on the same team in the NBA.

Steph, meanwhile will make just under $60million this season per Spotrac, while Jimmy Butler will also make over $54million with Golden State.

The elder Curry has spent his entire 16-year, record-setting career with the Warriors as he’s won two MVPs, four championships and broke the record for most three-pointers made.

After losing in the conference semifinals last year, the Warriors will begin their 2025-26 campaign against the Lakers on Tuesday.
