Giants could bench Russell Wilson ALREADY for Jaxson Dart as coach gives awkward answer on QB’s future

After falling to the division rival Washington Commanders in Week 1 of the NFL season, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll may already be considering his options at starting quarterback.

The Giants fell 21-6 on the road in a game where they never looked like they were primed to compete.

That’s thanks in part to a lethargic offense helmed by quarterback Russell Wilson – who failed to truly take over in his first start for his new team.

Wilson completed only 17-of-37 passes for 168 yards. He also ran for 44 yards. No one on the Giants managed to score a touchdown.

As a result, Daboll dodged any questions about the future of the quarterback position for his team.

‘We’re going to get home and look at our game,’ Daboll said when asked if he’d consider starting rookie Jaxson Dart in Week 2 against the rival Dallas Cowboys (via ESPN).

Daboll continued, ‘Yeah we’re just right here after the game. I’ve got confidence… We have to do better around overall – coaches, players, [all] around everybody. So we’ll get focused and ready to go on to Dallas.’

After that remark, a member of the press mentioned that Daboll’s response could be construed as a non-answer. Once again, he did not definitively say who would be the starter next week.

‘We’re talking about after every game. … I’ve got confidence in Russ,’ he said. ‘We’ll go back, evaluate the tape. This game isn’t on Russell Wilson. It’s not on Russell Wilson. Let me make that clear. I have confidence in Russ. We have to do a better job all the way around.’

That much is clear. The Giants finished the day with only 231 yards of total offense – despite having over a minute more in possession time than their opponents.

Adding insult to injury, the G-Men went 0-for-2 in the Red Zone and went 4-16 on 3rd-down-conversions.

The result did little to convince Giants fans that this season might be different from the ones prior – when they finished 30th (2023) and 31st (2024) in points per game.
