The New York Giants and fan-favorite New Jersey native Tommy DeVito appear to be nearing a new deal, although it’s unclear how far along negotiations are at this moment.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and others reported DeVito, 26, has agreed to sign his exclusive rights tender ahead of the league’s open free agency – a deal that would pay him around $1 million in 2025.
DailyMail.com was able to confirm that agreement with one league source. However, when contacted by DailyMail.com, DeVito’s agent Sean Stellato contradicted those reports somewhat. Stellato wasn’t ruling out a return to the Giants for DeVito, but cautioned that nothing has been finalized.
Although the former Syracuse and Illinois product does have experience, appearing in a dozen games over his first two seasons with mixed results, DeVito is unlikely to head into 2025 as Big Blue’s starting quarterback.
That honor may fall to erstwhile Jets star Aaron Rodgers, who is expected by many to ink a free-agent deal with the Giants when the signing period begins. As NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton reported, the Giants are interested in bringing Rodgers on board, although no firm decision has been made.
DailyMail.com has since confirmed that Rodgers is ‘certainly’ part of the team’s quarterback considerations.

General manager Joe Schoen of the New York Giants speaks to the media during the combine
DeVito originally signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023 before depth issues and team struggles forced him into action over nine games. In the end, DeVito finished his rookie season with 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns through the air with another 195 yards and one score coming on the ground.
He made three appearances in 2024, completing 70 percent of his passes, but for just 5.8 yards per attempt.
Meanwhile the chatter surrounding Rodgers and the Giants has intensified in recent days.
The 41-year-old Super Bowl winner and four-time MVP is coming off a disastrous two-year stint with the Giants’ co-tenants at MetLife Stadium, the Jets.
However, he could serve as a sufficient place holder for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll until a long-term solution at quarterback presents itself.
And while Rodgers faced criticism with Gang Green after the team’s doomed acquisitions of his former Green Bay Packers receivers, Davante Adams and Allen Lazard, the future Hall of Famer’s numbers weren’t altogether terrible in 2024.
Despite a laundry list of issues in offense, Rodgers finished eight in the NFL with 3,897 yards – more than eventual MVP and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. What’s more, Rodgers’ 28 touchdowns were tied for seventh with Allen.
The Giants hold the third pick in next month’s NFL Draft, and could consider quarterbacks like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward or event Ole Miss star Jaxson Dart.
And even if the Giants to add Rodgers, his presence wouldn’t preclude the team from taking a quarterback in the first round, provided they’re willing to spend the year as his understudy.
