Georgia football recruit Chace Calicut was one of two teens arrested this month over their alleged involvement in a violent driving incident – just days before his accused accomplice was shot and killed at a pool party.

According to Fox 26 in Houston, Calicut and a fellow 17-year-old were charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the incident on July 6, which was a mere nine days after he committed to the Bulldogs.

The four-star cornerback recruit, who is the No 114 player overall in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to the University of Georgia’s football team on June 27. The alleged driving incident nine days later is said to have occurred in Calicut’s home city of Houston, where he currently plays for North Shore High School.

Court documents state that he is accused of driving in front of an unidentified male teen driver, who had an unnamed female passenger in his car at the time, and hitting his brakes to force the other male to slam on his own in a bid to avoid a crash, as per Fox 26.

The other male then attempted to drive around Calicut’s vehicle to get away, only for the Georgia commit to allegedly pull up next to him and drive erratically in front of and next to him.

Calicut’s passenger – who was identified as 17-year-old Isaiah Brice Phillip – is then accused of holding a hangun out and pointing it toward the other vehicle.

After he was able to elude the car, it is also alleged that the unnamed male heard several gunshots and that another friend had seen Phillip shooting out of the window.

Calicut and the other driver, who claims the football star had been threatening him for months, are believed to know each other from school. He and Phillip were reportedly arrested and charged on July 18.

And just over two weeks on from the alleged driving incident, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has announced that Phillip was killed in a shooting that occured in the area on Sunday.

Harris County officials said multiple shooters fired into a crowd of around 25-30 teens between the ages of 15 and 17 years old at a pool party on Liberty River Drive, with Phillip one of three who was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 15-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to a local emergency room and then by Life Flight. The third person, also 15, was taken to hospital.

Calicut is said to have had his first court appearance on July 22nd, where a judge set his bond at $20k.
