George Williams: Warrington Wolves captain says Marc Sneyd can aid freedom in halves | Manchester News

Warrington Wolves captain George Williams believes the signing of Marc Sneyd from Salford Red Devils can allow him to play more freely at stand-off.

The Wire signed half-back Sneyd from troubled Salford on an 18-month contract for an undisclosed fee.

Veteran Stefan Ratchford and Oli Leyland have partnered Williams at half-back so far this season.

“It’s nice to have him on our side. We’ve trained and you can just see the experience. It’ll be great for me and [full-back] Matty Dufty,” Williams told Radio Merseyside.

“He’s really good at organising, controlling the middle and I can just play my natural game and count the numbers and look where I want to chime in.

“Over the past couple of weeks I’ve probably had to think about kicking a little bit more and organising a bit more whereas now I can play a bit more freely, which I did really well last year with Duff [Dufty].”

Warrington have won twice in Super League this season but have lost their most recent two league games, with one of those coming off the back of a chastening defeat by Wigan Warriors in Las Vegas.

Williams admitted that their form in the early stages of the Super League season was not reflective of the standards they have set themselves.

“We’re nowhere near where we want to be. A lot of teams will say the same thing. Even Hull KR want to improve,” he added.

“We’re probably three or four out of 10 on where we want to be and progressing, but the leadership group are still driving the same standards win or lose.”
