Shropshire residents wishing to have their garden waste collected in the 12 months starting 1 November 2025 will be asked to pay a subscription fee of £56 per bin – the same as this year.

Subscriptions open today (1 October 2025) and everyone that signs up will have their garden waste collected up to and including 31 October 2026.

People are encouraged to sign up early to ensure that they receive the maximum number of collections.

Everyone that subscribes receives a bin sticker that shows the waste collection crews which bins to empty. People subscribing for the year 25/26 will receive a new, different colour, sticker.

The price will be reviewed as part of the council’s 2026/27 budget consultation process and is subject to change from 1 April 2026.

David Vasmer, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for waste management, said:

“We have carefully reviewed the garden waste service and I’m pleased that there will no increase in the current subsection fee for those wishing to subscribe for the year beginning 1 November 2025. I hope keeping the cost the same will encourage current subscribers to sign up again for the next 12 months, and encourage those who don’t currently subscribe to do so.

“I also advise people to sign up early to ensure that they receive the maximum number of collections during the subscription period. And current subscribers are urged to sign up before 1 November to ensure there is no break in their collection service.

“Though we have agreed not to increase the charge at this stage, the £56 fee will be reviewed as part of our budget consultation that is due to take place later this year before we agree our budget for the year 26//27, so people will have the chance to share their views then.”

Garden waste can also be taken to one of Shropshire Council’s household recycling centres, or composted at home.

For more information and to subscribe online go to www.shropshire.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

To subscribe by phone people can call 0345 520 7007 and select option 4. People can also subscribe by visiting the council’s Shropshire Local units in Ludlow and Shrewsbury, or one of Shropshire Local mobile units.

People that don’t subscribe are asked not to put garden waste in their general waste bin, as this is taken to the council’s energy recovery facility which can’t accept garden waste. General waste bins containing garden waste won’t be emptied.
