Householders are being given an extra four weeks to subscribe to Shropshire Council’s garden waste collection service, after the deadline for signing up was extended to 30 April [2025].
The cut-off date for subscriptions was 31 March, but with many people expected to be out in their gardens over the Easter period they’re now being given until the end of this month to sign up.
So far more than 75,000 households have subscribed to the garden waste service – more than 50% of all eligible properties – and it’s hoped more will take advantage of the extended deadline to sign up.
Subscriptions run until 31 October 2025, and subscriptions for the period 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026 will open in September.
Gavin Waite, waste management services manager with Shropshire Council, said:
“Easter is late this year, and we know many people are likely to be doing jobs in their gardens over the Easter period – resulting in grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, branches, weeds, leaves and more that need to be disposed of. We’ve therefore agreed to extend the subscription deadline until after Easter and I hope people will take advantage of this extension.
“We’re really pleased with the number of households that have subscribed to the garden waste service so far. If anyone hasn’t signed up yet and wants to have their garden waste collected over the spring and summer they’ll need to subscribe by the new 30 April cut-off date.”
Garden waste can also be taken to one of Shropshire Council’s household recycling centres, or composted at home.
