Cullyhanna GAC has asked the public to keep their player Pearse Casey “in your prayers” after he was involved in a “serious incident” which forced the abandonment of their game against Mullaghbawn on Sunday.

The incident occurred after just four minutes of the Armagh Senior Football Championship Group B game in Mullaghbawn which led to a lengthy stoppage and abandonment.

Casey was captain when the south Armagh club won the 2024 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship, kicking a point in the final against Cork’s Cill Na Martra at Croke Park.

The club issued a statement, thanking all who attended to the midfielder including their opponents who were quick to assist the player who was taken to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital by air ambulance.

“Obviously as most people are aware we had a serious incident/accident in Mullaghbawn CLG tonight at our senior championship match,” it read.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with Pearse and his family at this time.

“We as a club are considerably thankful to all who helped particularly the stewards and members of Mullaghbawn CLG.

“A special mention to all who attended to Pearse on the pitch, all the paramedics, air ambulance personnel, Dr Gerard McCreesh, Dr Gareth Smyth, Dr Kevin McElvanna, Dr Laura Shannon, Donal Ferris, Fiona Callan, Niamh Derry, Paul McCoy, Mark Murphy and Ciaran Ferris.

“We as a club can’t thank you all enough, hopefully we haven’t missed anyone, if so please forgive us. Keep Pearse in your prayers.”
