Tottenham supporters were heard chanting in support of former manager Mauricio Pochettino after booing Thomas Frank’s side off after a dismal first-half against Newcastle.

The hosts trailed 1-0 at halt-time against Newcastle having been dominated by Eddie Howe’s side, while offering little threat in attack.

Tottenham fans vented their fury at the break with another resounding wave of boos.

With Newcastle threatening to score again in the early stages of the second half, a section of Tottenham fans were heard chanting ‘He’s magic you know, Mauricio Pochettino’.

The chants further demonstrated their ongoing dissatisfaction with Frank, who had overseen just two wins in 16 matches heading into Tuesday night’s fixture, with the club dragged into the thick of the relegation battle.

Pochettino, who had led Tottenham to a Champions League final and a runner-up finish in the Premier League, had this week signalled his intention to return to the club one day.

Fans have been signing Pochettino’s name by way of protest to make clear their dissatisfaction at the way things have been since he left in 2019.

Frank had been asked about possible chants following Pochettino’s interview with the High Performance Podcast ahead of the match.

‘I met Mauricio a few times, great guy, a great coach,’ Frank saidl.

‘He’s a legend. I don’t think he won a trophy, but he was part of transforming the club, from where it was at that stage, to where it ended being in terms of being close to winning the Premier League title and getting into the Champions League final.

‘If you are close, then you are very close to winning it. Sometimes in football, it’s margins. Pochettino did a top job here and is a true legend, so if the fans sing his name, it’s well deserved.’
