The Darwin Shopping Centre, Shrewsbury is getting into the Easter spirit this year with a retro gaming-inspired family event — featuring character appearances, hands-on activities, and a centre-wide trail with prizes up for grabs.

The free event takes place on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April, 11am–4pm, on the middle level of The Darwin, with a complementary gaming-themed trail running from 28 March to 12 April.

Meet the characters

On Friday 3 April, visitors will have the chance to meet and pose for photos with iconic gaming-inspired characters making special appearances throughout the day. A brilliant opportunity for young fans — and those who grew up on the classics.

Build, Race and Win

Also on the event days, families can get creative at the racing ramps activity, where children design, build and test their very own race cars — a hands-on challenge guaranteed to get imaginations racing.

The Gaming Trail

Running across the full Easter fortnight, the gaming-inspired trail gives families a brilliant reason to explore the centre. Pick up a trail sheet from Megastore Collectibles on the middle level, hunt for gaming-inspired images hidden around The Darwin, and return your completed sheet for a sweet treat and a chance to win a Super Mario-themed prize pack worth £100*. The prize bundle includes a remote control car, a LEGO® set, soft toys and action figures. All items are available from The Entertainer, Megastore Collectibles and TG Jones.

Trail sheets are free and available throughout the centre’s opening hours from 28 March. No booking is required for any part of the event or trail.

Kevin Lockwood, Centre Manager, The Darwin Shopping Centre said:

“Easter is one of the busiest and most exciting times of year for families visiting The Darwin, and we wanted to offer something really memorable this year. Whether you’re into classic gaming or simply looking for a fun day out with the kids, there’s something here for everyone — and it’s completely free to take part.”

The Darwin is home to Darwin’s Den, its popular free soft play area for children aged 0–8, making it one of Shrewsbury’s most family-friendly destinations. With free-to-attend events, ample parking and easy access from the adjacent bus station, the centre makes a perfect base for an Easter day out in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre.
