Former WWE champion Alberto del Rio has reportedly been arrested in Mexico.

According to TMZ, Del Rio – real name Alberto Rodriguez – was detained by law enforcement in San Luis Potosi after he allegedly physically assaulted his wife.

Another report from a local outlet claimed that his wife had suffered injuries to her face and arms before called 911 for police assistance.

As per the report, members of the State Civil Guard arrived at the scene and swiftly detained the former WWE star.

Rodriguez, 48, signed with the WWE in 2009 and made his debut on their main roster the following year. He won two Championships during his time with the promotion.

In 2011, Rodriguez became the only professional wrestler to win both the Royal Rumble and the Money in the Bank ladder match in the same calendar year.

He eventually left the WWE in 2014 before joining a number of other, smaller, wrestling promotions.

The shocking allegations mark the latest run-in with law enforcement for Rodriguez.

In May 2020, Rodriguez was arrested after being accused of beating and raping a woman – and threatening her child.

He was booked into the Bexar County jail and charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm before being released on $50,000 bail.

He was later indicted by a grand jury and formally charged with aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. His trial was delayed several times until the charges were ultimately dropped in December 2021.

Rodriguez, who has also wrestled under the name Alberto El Patrón, competed on the WWE’s main roster from 2010 until 2014, taking on notable names including John Cena, Batista and Roman Reigns.

He returned for a second stint from 2015-2016, and has also wrestled for companies including Impact Wrestling, World Wrestling Council, Ring of Honor and Lucha Underground.

Rodriguez also had a career in mixed martial arts and previously fought under the ‘Combate Americas’ promotion. Overall, he had a 9-6 record.
