Former Premier League winner set to make festival debut at Reading after becoming a DJ in huge career change

A Premier League winner is set to light up Reading festival with a house music DJ set.

The former England international won the Premier League twice with Manchester City and also made 26 appearances for England.

Last year he revealed that being a disc jockey full-time was a ‘real ambition’ and this weekend he will get closer to converting that dream into a reality.

Joleon Lescott is the man hoping to wow the crowd with his beats, eight years after hanging up his boots.

He will hope to captivate his audience on the Jagermeister Stage on Sunday at 6pm.

Lescott is a big name in English football, having made 614 appearances across his career for Man City, Everton, Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa, Sunderland, and AEK Athens.

Since retiring, he has been a coach with the England under-21s in Lee Carsley’s set-up and followed him to the senior side when Gareth Southgate left.

The England gig put his musical ambitions on hold but he is determined to prove himself.

He told The Rest Is Football last year: ‘Yeah, that is a thing, real ambition to do [a DJing career].

‘I had some gigs in the summer but when you get this call from a friend who says “do you want to be part of the England set-up?” I kind of had to park it.

‘But, yeah, I still train. It’s the closest thing I have to playing, in terms of the feeling it gives me.

‘House now, like deep house and stuff.

‘So, you kind of have to recognise what most of the younger generation listen to.’

More to follow.
