  • The EFL outfit finished a disappointing 10th in their bid for immediate promotion
  • They also finished the season without a manager after a below-par campaign
  • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! Arsenal need to sign players for the here and now to win the Premier League… so, should they sign Harry Kane?

A Football League club has released as many as 10 players from their ranks following the end of a disappointing season, including their longest serving star.

After seven consecutive defeats to bring their campaign in League One to an end, the side finished an under-whelming 10th in the standings, well short of promotion back to the Championship.

Very rarely do any teams start a new season with the exact same faces as they ended the previous, but as well as releasing 10 stars, the League One outfit will also see four loan players return to parent clubs.

As well as one that, goalkeeper Chris Maxwell will also be retiring, meaning Huddersfield Town will be starting 2025-26 without at least 15 names who ended their disappointing campaign.

Chief among the departing figures is club legend Jonathan Hogg, who signed from Watford way back in 2013.

Hogg played 59 games across both the Terriers’ Premier League campaigns between 2017 and 2019, and departs the club after 410 appearances.

Hogg had already confirmed that he would be leaving the West Yorkshire outfit prior to the end of their disappointing season.

The club’s chairman, Kevin Nagle, paid tribute to the departing Huddersfield Town hero after his long years of service, which also saw him score six goals and provide nine assists from the base of midfield.

‘This is an emotional moment for us all as we show our love and sincere gratitude for a player who has embodied everything it is to represent Huddersfield Town,’ said Nagle.

‘A captain, legend and enduring figure for all associated with the club, it is only correct that we give Jonathan the send-off a player and a person of his calibre has earned after leading the team with such distinction.’

The club captain is joined by Danny Ward, Tom Lees, Matty Pearson, Ollie Turton, Josh Ruffels, Josh Koroma, Scott High, Loick Ayina and Conor Falls in being released as the Terriers look to start afresh next term.

They in fact ended the season without a manager after Michael Duff was relieved of his duties back in March.

He was replaced by academy boss Jon Worthington in interim charge, though he only won twice in his 10 games.
