Former NBA star Patrick Beverley has publicly addressed the tumultuous past few months as he branded his arrest one of the worst experiences of his life after he was cleared of charges last month.

The 37-year-old was arrested on a felony assault charge in November after he was accused of choking and punching his own 15-year-old sister.

Last week, a grand jury in Fort Bend County, Texas determined there was not enough evidence to move forward with the case against the former Houston Rockets, LA Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks player.

Now, Beverley has released a 14-minute video, detailing the events of his arrest and documenting the days after he was released on $40,000 bail.

‘Like, a part of me understands it, right? If I’m outside looking in and I’m reading something – you know, big bold headline, mug shot – I get it. But I would never hurt my sister,’ Beverley insisted in the opening minutes of the video.

Beverley filmed himself on November 18, following his release from jail, revealing the terms of his bail, which included daily drug testing. He was also ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from his sister, forcing him to relocate the family to a home in Chicago.

‘So this is day one of innocent until proven guilty. I’m so salty right now. The things they’re saying on the internet are unbelievable – punching my sister, choking my sister,’ he said to the camera, while driving a Rolls Royce.

‘I just can’t wait until the truth comes out. And when the truth comes out, it still isn’t going to serve me as much justice as I want.

‘Look at this. I have to call from 5am to 9am every day for drug testing. Stuff that comes with the situation that happened. I can’t be around my sister – a 1,000 feet away. My mom’s house is next door to mine, so it’s connected. I had to move them to the Chicago property.

‘I can’t see my mom. I can’t see my sister. It’s the holidays. Like, what the hell?’

The incident in November allegedly occurred after Beverley’s sister, a minor, left the family home in Richmond, Texas, in the middle of the night without permission in order to see her boyfriend.

Beverley’s sister – whose name was redacted from police reports seen by the Daily Mail – returned home, only for her mother, Lisa, to confront her. Lisa told her daughter to call the person she left to see and ask him to pick her up.

After the boyfriend – identified as Aiden Hilderbrand – arrived, Lisa invited him inside and brought him up to her daughter’s bedroom, according to police. Lisa then asked Beverley to visit the house and enter his sister’s bedroom.

According to police, Beverley began to yell at his sister and ask ‘what is wrong with her’ before he grabbed her by the neck and picked her off the ground.

In his video, Beverley offered his version of events, explaining that he was due to get up at 5am that day to catch a flight to Los Angeles and work out for some basketball teams.

However, a call from his mom woke him up two hours earlier, urgently asking him to go over to her home ‘right now.’

‘I go over there and [my mom] explains that my sister isn’t in the house when she’s supposed to be,’ Beverley said.

‘Something similar happened last year – someone called the police on my mom, CPS got involved, and they threatened to take my sister. So this isn’t something that just happened overnight. It’s been a constant battle dealing with a young teenager who’s in love.

‘We get it – be in love. I love that your love is organic, pure, strong and loyal. But just wait until you’re 16. You’re growing up too fast.’

Beverley continued to explain that upon arriving at the house, his mom informed him that his sister had ‘snuck out.’ He said he then pulled his sister by the arm into the next room and asked her: ‘Come here. What are you doing?’

‘As a 37-year-old brother with a 15-year-old sister, it’s not really little sister vibes. It’s like little daughter vibes,’ Beverley said.

‘The young man she was with was cool. They actually wanted me to file charges on him, and I made sure that didn’t happen because I didn’t want to mess up his life.

‘He walks out the door and my sister runs behind him. I grab her by the hoodie – not the hood on the back, but the front – like, “Where are you going?”

‘I’m heated. I leave the house following the young man outside. I guess he called law enforcement. Police come, and I’m telling everyone nothing happened.

‘But then I see them talking to my sister. My mom is saying, “That didn’t happen. What are you saying?”

‘Next thing I know, I’m detained and put in the back of a police car.’

After the case against him was dropped, his attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, told TMZ: ‘Patrick wants everyone to know that he would never do anything to harm his sister and that he is very grateful that the grand jury has recognized that with their no-bill.

‘He is thankful for all who prayed for him and supported him during this time. He is glad that the process was allowed to work as it did and his hope is that with these charges behind him now, his name and reputation will be restored.’
