Former Melbourne Victory young gun Damian Bozinovski is recovering after a heart scare saw him rushed to hospital.

An ambulance was called after the 20-year-old clutched his chest late in the second half when playing for Preston Lions in the NPL Victoria competition on February 15.

Bozinovski’s teammates could be heard on the match livestream revealing to supporters the problem was an issue with his heart.

Club physios rushed to Bozinovski after he fell to his knees, with the clash against Oakleigh Cannons halted for 20 minutes.

Medical officials then arrived at Jack Edwards Reserve and took Bozinovski to hospital.

He is now on the mend and expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement on social media.

‘The club can confirm Damian Bozinovski is in great care with his beautiful family and (is) expected to make a solid recovery,’ the Preston Lions said.

‘Damian and the family thank everyone for their well-wishes.

‘We would also like to thank the Oakleigh Cannons for their help and support during the incident.’

Bozinovski was on debut for Preston after moving across from Melbourne Victory’s Academy squad.

His coach Zoran Markovski confirmed everyone’s thoughts were with Bozinovski.

‘Football aside, my main concern is Damian Boz,’ he said.

‘Hopefully the kid is OK and from everyone at the club – the players, the coaching staff, the sponsors – we just hope he recovers quickly.’

The terrifying moment seemed to inspire Preston, with the team scoring two goals in six minutes to seal a 3-1 victory.

Bozinovski, a defender, captained the Melbourne Victory Academy squad last year.

He also featured in the A-League pre-season friendly against Wrexham A.F.C.

Damian is the younger brother of Preston Lions teammate Matthew Bozinovski.
