Mark Webster is set to return to the Sky Sports commentary box on Thursday following a positive update on his battle with cancer.

The 2008 British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championship winner has been absent from the commentary box since starting chemotherapy in February after being diagnosed with rare form of blood cancer known as hairy cell leukaemia.

Just last week, the 42-year-old Welshman had publicly shared that his recovery was “not going to plan in terms of the speed of it.”

However, in a welcome turn of events, he announced on Tuesday that he has been cleared to rejoin the broadcast team for Thursday night’s Premier League event in Birmingham.

Reposting the video in which he initially revealed his diagnosis, Webster shared on X: “I’m delighted to say that since this interview was filmed, things have improved.”

He added: “Although I’m still undergoing treatment, I have been cleared to return to Premier League duty on Thursday. Looking forward to being back amongst it. Thanks again for all of the love and support.”

Webster has missed the opening 14 weeks of this year’s Premier League, but is set to return for what promises to be an exciting final two weeks of the regular season.

Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton have already booked their spots at Finals Night at the end of the month, but there are still two places up for grabs.

Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries are currently in pole position to join Littler and Clayton at the O2 Arena on 28 May, but they have Dutch duo Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen hot on their heels.

Fan favourite Stephen Bunting also has a slim chance of qualifying for the showpiece event in London, which will see the semi-finals and final take place all on one night.

Humphries is the defending champion after beating Littler in last year’s final.
