  • Kahlia Howe suffered a miscarriage last year
  • Mother of two originally blamed herself
  • Married AFL star Jeremy Howe in 2019

The wife of Collingwood AFL star Jeremy Howe has opened up with a raw account of the agony she endured after having a miscarriage last year.

Kahlia Howe became a mother for the first time with son Zander three years ago, with the couple’s second boy Saxon coming into the world just 10 weeks ago.

In between the two arrivals was the tragic loss of a baby at 11 weeks, and Howe admitted she initially ‘blamed herself’ for the miscarriage.

‘I kind of blamed myself for losing the baby, which is really awful because it wasn’t my fault. I look back and I know it wasn’t meant to be,’ she told News Corp.

‘I thought, I have Zander and he’s very happy and healthy so I didn’t allow myself to grieve or feel sad about losing a baby.

‘I saw my obstetrician (after feeling something was amiss) and ended up in emergency the next day.

‘I want to give other people some light to not feel ashamed. People should be supported.’

In March, the footy world welcomed the birth of Saxon.

‘Congrats guys !! Just beautiful,’ Channel 7 commentator Abbey Holmes wrote in response to a social media post at the time.

‘Beautiful little man. Congratulations darlings’ posted Kellie Finlayson, wife of Port Adelaide player Jeremy.

Howe also paid tribute to his wife, commending her for her ‘amazing’ efforts during the birth.

‘Mumma did an amazing job and being a Mum just suits her. We can’t wait for him to meet all friends and family.’

Meanwhile, the new mum also penned a sweet post online, writing: ‘Welcome to the world little man, you are so loved already!

‘Mum and Dad can’t wait for you to meet all of your friends and family (whenever that may be).’

Born in Tasmania, key defender Howe made his AFL debut in 2011 with Melbourne before joining the Magpies in 2016.

A premiership player in 2023, Howe, 34, is off-contract at the end of the season.

But given Collingwood’s ominous current form, the proud member of ‘Dad’s Army’ alongside the likes of Steele Sidebottom and Will Hoskin-Elliott is doing his chances of a fresh deal for 2026 no harm.

In round 11 action on May 24, Collingwood tackle North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium from 7.35pm.
