- Stephen Silvagni tipped to again snub Carlton
- Was a key figure in Blues’ 1995 AFL premiership
- Then was sacked as club’s list boss in 2019
AFL legend Stephen Silvagni won two premierships with Carlton in his decorated playing days – but bad blood clearly remains following his sacking by the Blues in 2019 when he was the club’s list boss.
Silvagni, 57, is tipped to be a no-show at Carlton’s 30-year premiership celebrations this weekend in Melbourne following their 1995 triumph.
The defender was sacked by CEO Cain Liddle in December of 2019, with the club citing a conflict of interest given Silvagni’s sons Jack and Ben were both playing for the Blues.
In March 2023, the man affectionately known as ‘SOS’ was invited into the Carlton shed to celebrate Jack’s 100th career game – but instead chose to sit in his car.
And this weekend, Silvagni is tipped to miss two Blues’ functions – including a team gathering at the MCG – toasting the club’s success 30 years ago at the same venue.
Speaking on Channel Seven’s The Agenda Setters on Monday night, veteran journalist Caroline Wilson felt it was sad Silvagni won’t catch up with his teammates.

Silvagni famously kept AFL legend Gary Ablett snr goalless in the 1995 Grand Final
‘You shouldn’t fall out with your footy club where you played in a premiership,’ she said.
AFLW legend Daisy Pearce also weighed in on the matter.
‘You don’t know the family dynamics. But however awkward it would have been to have ‘SOS’ (Stephen Silvagni) in the (Carlton) rooms, it is more awkward he is not there,’ she said.
At the end of the 2019 season, Stephen Silvagni left Carlton in controversial circumstances following a falling out with club management.
A furious Silvagni later told SEN Radio he deserved better given his 17 years of service and felt the situation was poorly handled.
Silvagni is currently the list manager at St Kilda.
Meanwhile, the Blues have revived their 2025 campaign following a shocking start which saw four successive defeats.
With his job reportedly on the line, coach Michael Voss has since orchestrated wins over West Coast and North Melbourne the past fortnight.
Beating the Cats in a blockbuster at the MCG on April 27 will further silence the doubters.
