  • Follows planned eye surgery this week
  • Won’t attend Thursday clash against Panthers
  • Bulldogs are the current NRL ladder leaders

Footy fans have expressed their concern after Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould shared a gruesome photo of his ‘new eye’ on social media.

It follows planned surgery for Gould, 67, earlier this week.

‘Undergoing eye surgery tomorrow,’ he posted on X on Monday.

‘Taking the rest of the week off. There will be a special replacement for the Six Tackles with Gus podcast on Wednesday.

‘Hopefully I’m back on deck for 100% Footy next Monday night. Enjoy the weekend round of football ahead everyone.’

Gould then followed up with an image post surgery which featured a series of laughing emojis with the accompanying caption: ‘And there it is….a new eye.’

Gould – who is prolific on X – later told his 73,000 plus followers the vision in his ‘new eye is simply amazing’….and after speaking to his doctor has ‘already booked to get the other eye done.’

Last month Gould was embroiled in a heated exchange with respected rugby league journalist Michael Chammas on Channel 9’s 100% Footy in relation to Canterbury chasing Wests Tigers young gun Lachlan Galvin.

Gould denied accusations he misled the public about signing the young playmaker – and went after Chammas, who stood his ground.

‘How did I mislead you on Lachlan Galvin?’ Gould asked in tense scenes.

‘I never said I wasn’t interested. What I said was we’re on a different course, he’s not in our plans because he wasn’t off contract until 2027.

‘You’re summising that because it’s happened. You want that to be the truth.

‘You want that to be the truth, that’s the scenario you want to create. I didn’t see it happening that way at all, not at all.

‘You go back and review everything I’ve said about Lachlan Galvin and what transpired and everything I said was 100 per cent the truth at the time.’

Gould finished off his tirade by bluntly stating: ‘I didn’t mislead anyone….mind your words, son.’

He later added the ‘goalposts had shifted’, and that was how Galvin ended up at Belmore – despite having 18 months of his contract to run out with the Tigers.

Veteran News Corp reporter Phil Rothfield feels Gould’s reputation has taken a serious hit following the Galvin saga.

‘I reckon he’s damaged credibility wise,’ Rothfield said on the Off The Record podcast.

‘I think the punters are awake to it. I honestly think people won’t cop his bullsh** anymore.’
