Five more men have been arrested on suspicion of raping a child more than 10 years ago as part of an investigation into the non-recent sexual abuse of several girls in Oldham.
Police said the suspects, aged between 38 and 51, were arrested in dawn raids on homes in the town. Detectives are investigating reports from two victims of sexual abuse in Oldham between 2011 and 2014.
A total of 21 arrests have now been made as part of Operation Sherwood. The latest five suspects remain in custody for questioning.
Det Supt Alan Clitherow, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “We are determined not to let the passage of time stand in the way of securing justice for survivors.”
Operation Sherwood was launched following a critical report that found authorities, including police, had failed to protect vulnerable young people in Oldham from abuse.
