Samuel Sarver produced an iconic MLS moment on Saturday night after celebrating his stoppage-time winner for FC Dallas by picking up a can of beer and soaking himself in it.

With their game against the San Jose Earthquakes tied at 2-2 in the dying minutes, Sarver was released through on goal by Brazilian midfielder Kaick before slotting the ball home to spark wild scenes for the visitors at PayPal Park.

The American winger initially celebrated in bizarre fashion after sitting on the advertising boards in front of the home crowd with three of his teammates, before falling backwards theatrically while seemingly mimicking scuba divers.

That choreographed routine didn’t go down well with San Jose fans, who immediately threw a number of items onto the field in fury, including a can of Modelo beer.

And to rub salt in the wounds, Sarver picked the can up and proceeded to chug it in front of them.

It is unclear how much of the beer he actually drank, nevertheless, given most of it ended up covering his face instead.

With his face soaked in foam, Sarver threw the can away to mark one of the most remarkable MLS celebrations of all time.

Fans were blown away by his beer-chug moment on social media, with one writing: ‘This is footballing heritage.’

‘Best celebration ever in mls,’ concluded another.

‘We need more celebrations like that in this league,’ said a third.

While one user posted: ‘Is Sam Sarver now my favorite player in the MLS… Um yes!!!!’

Sarver’s stoppage-time goal was his third in four games for Dallas, who sit fifth in the Western Conference with 22 points from their first 14 games.

Patrickson Delgado and Petar Musa also got on the scoresheet in the win over San Jose, who have now suffered back-to-back defeats after Seattle ended their eight-game unbeaten streak on Wednesday.
