Anthony Gordon is the fastest player still competing in this season’s Champions League, according to newly recorded data.

Statistics, sourced from football analysts Gradient and published by the CIES Football Observatory, reveal 29 Premier League players make up the quickest 100 stars in Europe’s premier competition.

At a blistering pace of 37.92km/h, Newcastle winger Gordon edges out his team-mate Anthony Elanga who is just behind him with 36.65km/h. Harvey Barnes is also not far off at 35.48km/h.

Eddie Howe’s men, who are known for their ability to hit teams on the counter-attack to devastating effect, make up five of the 29 Premier League names on the list with midfielders Sandro Tonali (33.24km/h) and Joe Willock (32.36km/h) up there, too.

But it is Manchester City who boast the fastest players competing from England with an astonishing nine in their ranks alone, including Abdukodir Khusanov (35.80km/h), who pipped Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven (35.11km/h) as the Champions League’s quickest centre-back.

Josko Gvardiol (33.25km/h), Nico O’Reilly (35.91km/h), Rayan Ait Nouri (34.49km/h), Matheus Nunes (34.01km/h), Tijani Reijnders (32.93km/h), Savinho (33.80km/h), Erling Haaland (34.87km/h) and Omar Marmoush (33.06km/h) are City’s other top speed demons.

Van de Ven holds the record for the fastest speed ever recorded in Premier League history

Van de Ven holds the record for the fastest speed ever recorded in Premier League history

Van de Ven, who recorded the fastest speed in Premier League history last year against Brentford with 37.38 km/h, is joined on the list by Spurs star Djed Spence (34.58km/h).

Igor Tudor, who has recently taken over from Thomas Frank at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, may be tasked with saving Spurs from Premier League relegation but he will also be looking to have a crack at the latter stages of the Champions League.

And to do that, he’ll have pace to burn in midfield with Archie Gray (34.82km/h), Lucas Bergvall (33.64km/h), Rodrigo Bentancur (32.61km/h) and Joao Palhinha (32.21km/h).

Wilson Odobert (34.41km/h) and Randal Kolo Muani (33.60km/h), both of whom were used sparingly under Frank, may also prove key for Tudor in Europe.

Spurs’ rivals Arsenal, on the other hand, may have finished top of the Champions League’s league phase, but none of Mikel Arteta’s players were clocking particularly fast speeds compared to their domestic rivals.

In fact, just two Gunners stars make up the top 100 and, perhaps surprisingly, one of them is Viktor Gyokeres – who has largely been viewed as slow – with a speed of 33.26km/h recorded.

Gabriel Martinelli is the other Arsenal player to make the list, reaching 34.68km/h ahead of the likes of Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr (33.68km/h) and Chelsea winger Pedro Neto (33.85) – the only Blues star in the top 100.

In Liverpool’s ranks there are more than Arsenal and, to little surprise, it is Hugo Ekitike who comes out fastest for Arne Slot’s side with a speed of 34.91km/h recorded for the Frenchman.

Ekitike’s fellow countryman Ibrahima Konate (34.54km/h) is second fastest for the Reds, while Jeremie Frimpong (34.62km/h) and Ryan Gravenberch (32.15km/h) round out the list for the Premier League’s paciest players.

Looking at the competition’s top 10, Achraf Hakimi (36.40km/h) and Nuno Mendes (36.12km/h) come in hot for holders Paris Saint-Germain.

Carlos Forbs, who has scored twice and bagged three assists in Club Brugge’s eight Champions League games to date, also clocked an impressive 35.93km/h ahead of Emmanuel Addai (35.87km/h) of Qarabag, who host Newcastle on Wednesday.

Kylian Mbappe (35.67km/h) and Federico Valverde (35.53km/h) are the quickest from Real Madrid’s Galacticos, who are hunting an astonishing 16th Champions League title should they first pass the test of Benfica on Tuesday.

And Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford (35.37km/h) is Barcelona’s quickest, ahead of Eric Garcia (34.09km/h) and Jules Kounde (33.77km/h).
