NBA fans were blown away by Avery Wilson’s ‘beautiful’ national anthem before the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs’ Game 4 showdown.
Wilson, a Grammy-nominated singer and actor, has become the Knicks’ ‘good-luck charm’ during their historic run to the NBA Finals this season.
And ahead of Wednesday’s crucial clash with the Spurs, he was invited back to Madison Square Garden to perform the Star-Spangled Banner.
Viewers heaped praise on Wilson after his moving rendition, with one writing on X: ‘That was beautiful Avery Wilson’.
‘Once again, Avery Wilson cooked that anthem!’ said another.
A third went as far as to say: ‘That national anthem by Avery Wilson was the best I’ve ever heard.’
‘Man, Avery Wilson may have just sang one of the best Anthems of all time. Kid is super talented,’ a fourth user commented.
While a fifth put: ‘Avery Wilson so good they had him do it twice! Twice as nice!’
The Knicks are a perfect 6-0 in the playoffs when Wilson performs the national anthem, meaning the omens are good ahead of Game 4. The only game he has missed at MSG ended in defeat against the Spurs on Monday night.
‘They refer to me as a good-luck charm,’ he recently told the Daily News.
‘People were like, “We need you,”‘ he added. ‘Especially some of the staff backstage that I deal with all the time, they’re like, “Every time. Every time.” And I’m like, “You might be on to something.”‘
