A 17-year-old who died after losing control of his car and careering down an rural embankment has been described by his family as “a kind, caring, sensitive and compassionate young man”.

Liam Bracken, from Bolton, crashed on Jackson Heights Road in Belthorn, Lancashire, just after 20:30 BST on Monday after his blue Vauxhall Corsa left the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Lancashire Police said.

Paying tribute, Liam’s parents said he was “extremely family orientated” and had just passed his GCSEs “with flying colours” to secure an engineering apprenticeship.

“He was always striving to better himself and reach for the top,” they added.

“We are so proud of raising a son who showed how to be respectful and had a fantastic moral compass.

“This is such a tremendous loss to his loving family. Liam will be missed and loved by all who knew him.”

Four other teenagers were injured and were taken to hospital before being discharged.

Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
