Former Glasgow City Council leader and ex-Labour MSP Frank McAveety has been arrested and charged over fraud offences.
Police Scotland confirmed the allegations were related to incidents in Glasgow between 2022 and 2024.
Scottish Labour and Glasgow City Council have been contacted for comment.
Mr McAveety was council leader from 1997 until 1999 when he was elected to the Scottish Parliament.
He held several ministerial positions before he lost the Glasgow Shettleston seat to the SNP in 2011.
Mr McAveety was elected to the council in 2012, then re-elected as council leader in 2015.
He was succeeded by the SNP’s Susan Aitken in 2017.
